Lyn Community Development Trust

Lyn Community Development Trust (LCDT) was set up by the North Devon District Council in 1999. Its prime aim was to oversee the final stages of the regeneration of Lynton Market Hall and the transfer of the Library from the Town Hall to its new premises.

In 2001 Lynton & Lynmouth became part of the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative and with a lot of support from North Devon Council the community was in a position to draw down funds and LCDT was asked to become the accountable body for these funds. This opened the way to champion a number of projects highlighted in the community strategic plan at that time. As part of this initiative Lyn & Exmoor Vision (LEV) was established.  LEV held extensive public consolations and formulated and published a Community Strategic Plan for the 9 parishes they represented. In 2006 LEV merged with the Trust. The Trust formally agreed to adopt and progress the strategic plan.

In 2002 the Trust became a registered charity and in 2004 obtained ownership of the area known as Middleham Gardens. The regeneration of the gardens became a very successful project and after much work and fundraising now provides the community, both resident and visiting, with a lovely memorial garden on the edge of the East Lyn River.

Since then the LCDT has developed and supported a wide range of projects from the transformation of Middleham Gardens, to the replacement of the iconic Woodside Bridge in Watersmeet Valley. Current ongoing initiatives include the management and maintenance of the Air Ambulance lighting in Holman Park to supporting Lyn Climate Action, enabling them to create the Lyn Community Orchard.
